CARISBROOKE SHIPPING LIMITED is seeking a LEGAL ADVISOR with experience in the SHIPPING INDUSTRY to enhance the continuing development of our successful and expanding organisation.

We are a growing and ambitious company with over 65 modern dry cargo/MPP vessels under commercial and technical management, with a further series of newbuilding vessels under construction to be delivered in the coming years. We presently have offices in the UK, the Netherlands, Germany, Canada, and Singapore. The available position will be based from our UK head office in Cowes, Isle of Wight.

The appropriate candidate is an ambitious individual who will be capable of providing us with timely and commercially focused advice.  You will need to be an excellent co-ordinator who can meet the following expectations:

• Give support and advice on legal issues to the Management Team;
• Provide proactive legal assistance, have knowledge of different areas of law such as finance, general contract law, commercial contracts, dispute resolution, regulatory, employment, and corporate governance;
• Ensure that contractual documents are effectively drafted and reviewed, and the commercial implications explained to the management team and the Board;
• Take decisive actions on various legal matters, assessing contentious and non-contentious issues;
• Manage external legal resources where required;
• Assist the business in compliance with various legal and regulatory requirements including assessment of the appropriate minimum liability and legal exposure for the business.

We require excellent communication skills in English, and consider any knowledge of additional languages to be a bonus within our multicultural organisation.

In addition, we would prefer the successful candidate’s skills to include:

• Strong written and oral communication and analytical skills;
• Ability to grasp complex areas of law rapidly and accurately;
•  Exhibiting sound practical judgment;
• Ability to work as a member of multi-disciplinary team;
• Ability to prioritize issues and organize work effectively to meet deadlines;
• Experience in maritime law.
